While preparing to display other work in this beautiful space in the Sullivan Galleries, I couldn't help but respond to what the massive window which faced my space boasted: the city. Urban jungle, iron and geometry, finance and commerce and other serious things.
I keep a tiny sketchbook where I explore opposing marks on opposing pages. Here, I approached my space and what it faced in the window as adjacent pages in my sketchbook. So, this installation is my response to what it faces in that window. It is the opposing force... unplanned and organic and not-so-serious. It is a play with marks and shadows that mimic those marks; and, the amusing, phenomenological effect it produces. The shadow-lines move as the light changes, the vellum flutters as passers-by pass...
